The FACS power attenuator was an exclusive design of Jim Kelley. Jim Kelley is now the director of the Physics Department for the University of California school system.

The design included a specially built dual-casing to house the dual intertwined power system. Along with that was a special 4-pin cable for the relay to attenuator signal. It is possible to have this built but I imagine the cost would be in the neighborhood of $300 plus. That will, however, not guarantee that it will be built with the same housing as the original Jim Kelley attenuators.

Made during the early 80s. Kelley reportedly built some great sounding amps. They have been referred to as high powered versions of the tweed Deluxe. Bonnie Raitt used them for a few years. They used four 6V6s run at an ungodly high voltage (better use JAN tubes!). He offered a few models. One was called the FACS and had a footswitch to do channel switching. It also had a power soak built in. Others were single channel amps with either a single 10" or a single 12" speaker. Extension speakers were also available. He used a variety of vinyl and grille cloths styles. They have been selling for between $600 and $1000. Considering that you can find a variety of blackface Fenders and blue diamond Ampeg combos in that price range, they're not very attractive unless you just *need* that sound. $500 would be a good price.

>You really have to hear and use one of these amps to get an idea of good they really are. The FACS amp was simply a two channel version of the single channel Kelley. Neither had a built in power attenuator, but both were designed to use the Kelley power attenuator. The FACS model was designed so that one could switch between attenuated and non-attenuated channels, each with its own set of Kelley-style tone controls. I've rarely seen these amps go for less than a grand in good condition, and when I have I've picked them up. These may be the best Fender sounding amps ever made, Fenders included.
